Many people take their offspring to Basar for “Akshara Abhyasam” before commencing formal school education. Special puja rituals and celebrations are held at this temple 15 days before of Maha Sivarathri, starting on Vasantha Panchami and continuing up to 3 days after the festival.

So while are planning to perform Aksharabhyasam for your child at Basar Temple, Just remember the following things:
- Take at least 1 Kg of rice with you which are to spread on the slate at the time of Aksharabhyasam
- Take a new cotton towel to put the slate on it. It’s not compulsory.
- Carry little pasupu (turmeric powder) and kumkham to use it while performing pooja
- Other things like slate, chalks, coconut, flowers and flower garland etc are available at the temple premises or you can carry with you.
- Remember these days are very important for performing Aksharabhyasam and there will be long queue. There may be waiting for hours together in the queue lines. So reach the temple in the early morning, so that you could be in the first slot for performing this function

Nice information. And here something i like to share about Aksharabhyasam. Aksharabhyasam means Vidyarambham is a traditional religious function in which a child is given initiation for education. By doing so the child is ready to receive formal school education. Mostly Aksharabhyasam saraswathi pooja is performed at temples, not in houses.Aksharabhyasam Saraswathi Pooja
